Dr. Ruth Ngechu

Dr. Ruth is a seasoned senior leader in public health with 20 years of experience in building and sustaining strategic partnerships with non-profit organizations, multilateral agencies—including USAID, WHO, and UNICEF—and national and regional governments. She has strong advocacy expertise and has been a featured speaker at high-profile international forums such as the World Health Assembly, Africa Health Agenda International Conference, Women Deliver, and UN high-level meetings on Universal Health Coverage. Ruth has held diverse roles across public and private sectors, leveraging her knowledge, networks, and insight to drive innovative advocacy initiatives, strategic engagements, and country-level health strategies. She is currently the Advocacy and External Engagements Director at Pathfinder International, where she leads efforts to advance public health priorities and strengthen partnerships. Ruth is a doctoral candidate in Health Communications at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, holds a Master of Science in Health Systems Management, and is an M&E Fellow. In her role as AYAN Kenya’s Fundraising and Partnership Advisor, she brings her extensive experience and strategic vision to support resource mobilization, partnership development, and advocacy that amplify the organization’s impact.
Mrs Terry Otieno
Legal Advisor
Terry Maryline Otieno is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over ten years of post-admission experience and a founding partner of MNO Advocates LLP. She provides expert legal support to AYAN Kenya, guiding the board on matters aligned with the organization’s thematic areas and objectives. Terry is a passionate leader who believes in teamwork and has played a pivotal role in ensuring the MNO brand lives up to its mission and vision, serving as Head of Business Development and leading her team in marketing the firm. She is a member of the Law Society of Kenya, the East Africa Law Society, and the Women on Boards Network, and is a certified Corporate Governance Practitioner and Mediator, with a strong belief in alternative dispute resolution methods. Beyond her professional career, Terry is an enthusiast of interior design and enjoys engaging in various projects related to her passion. She is also a dedicated wife and mother who values family time, cooking, and travel. In her role as AYAN Kenya’s Legal Advisor, Terry provides strategic legal guidance, ensures compliance, and supports governance frameworks to strengthen the organization’s operations and impact.
Dr. Johnstone Kuya –
Programs Advisor
Dr. Johnstone Kuya is a public health policy specialist with extensive experience in global health, sexual and reproductive health, health systems strengthening, policy and financing, and the management of strategic partnerships across government, non-governmental organizations, and academia in Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and Asia. He holds a Doctorate in Public Health (DrPH) and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. Dr. Kuya works closely with staff in charge of income and program reporting, reviewing outputs in line with board objectives and assessing efforts invested to achieve strategic goals. He is an Academic Fellow and Tutor at NextGen U, a Public Health Fellow at the Royal Society for Public Health (UK), and a member of the Public Health Society of Kenya. Additionally, he serves on advisory boards and scientific research committees of various organizations, contributing his expertise to strengthen programs, inform policy, and enhance the impact of health and development initiatives. In his role as AYAN Kenya’s Programs Advisor, Dr. Kuya provides strategic guidance, technical oversight, and mentorship to ensure programs are evidence-based, efficient, and aligned with the organization’s mission.
Mr Caleb Owino
Programs Advisor
Caleb Owino is a clinical, social, and community health development specialist with over a decade of experience in proposal development, resource mobilization, health program management, grants administration, strategy development, community organization, and coordination of service delivery. He has extensive technical expertise in prevention, care, treatment, and youth-focused program implementation across Kenya. Caleb holds an MSc in Health Systems Management, a BA in Sociology with IT, and a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery, complemented by multiple postgraduate certificates that underpin his broad expertise. He has significantly contributed to organizational capacity building and fundraising for more than 13 Key Population-led civil society organizations under the Key Population Investment Fund (KPIF) project while at Impact Research & Development Organization (IRDO), and he currently serves as the Technical Advisor for the MOSAIC project at LVCT Health, a PEPFAR-funded USAID HIV prevention initiative focusing on adolescent girls, young women, and other vulnerable populations. Caleb is also part of the Muyi Consulting Group within the East Africa Study Circle, a consortium of nine international philanthropies and foundations supporting equality and human rights work for LGBTIQ+ persons and sex workers across East Africa. His experience and contextual sensitivity across Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Burundi make him a trusted advisor, and in his role as AYAN Kenya’s Program Advisor, he provides strategic guidance and technical expertise to ensure the organization’s programs are impactful, inclusive, and sustainable.
Sian Norris
Advocacy and Publicity Advisor
Sian Norris is a writer and investigative journalist with extensive experience covering far-right movements and their growing influence on mainstream politics. She has reported for leading platforms including Byline Times, openDemocracy, The Guardian, New Statesman, and the i, with a particular focus on issues of reproductive rights, LGBTIQ rights, gender equality, migration, and social justice. A leading voice in the UK feminist movement, Sian has consistently amplified stories that expose men’s violence against women, highlight systemic inequalities, and defend human rights. In 2012, she founded the Bristol Women’s Literature Festival, which she successfully ran for eight years, celebrating women’s voices in literature and public life. She is also a regular contributor and speaker with Bristol Ideas. Sian is the author of Bodies Under Siege: How the Far-Right Attack on Reproductive Rights Went Global, a groundbreaking exposé that reveals how far-right extremists across Europe have used attacks on abortion as an entry point to advance fascist politics and strengthen their ties to the American far right. In her role as AYAN Kenya’s Advocacy and Publicity Advisor, Sian brings her deep expertise in journalism, campaigning, and storytelling to support the organisation’s mission of advancing reproductive justice, LGBTIQ rights, and social equality, ensuring that the voices of marginalized communities are heard and defended on both local and global platforms.
Janice Njoroge

Janice Njoroge is a seasoned Strategic Development Communications Consultant with over a decade of experience in the development sector. She specializes in helping non-profit organizations, social enterprises, and philanthropic funders amplify their impact and influence through strategic communication, visibility, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy. With an MBA in Media Leadership and additional professional certifications in Policy Development and Advocacy for Global Health as well as Data Visualization, Janice brings a unique blend of academic rigor, creativity, and practical expertise to her work. She is deeply passionate about leveraging communication as a catalyst for social change, ensuring that organizations and their causes are not only heard but also understood and supported. Currently serving as the Communications and Fundraising Advisor, Janice plays a pivotal role in shaping narratives, strengthening donor relations, and developing strategies that inspire action and mobilize resources. Janice is not only a skilled writer and editor but also a strategic thinker who understands how communications drive development outcomes. She combines storytelling with evidence-based advocacy, helping organizations position themselves for greater visibility, funding, and policy influence. Her work reflects a commitment to excellence, integrity, and impact—qualities that continue to make her a trusted advisor to organizations and leaders in the development space.
